Whether we are talking about the latest home entertainment systems, advancements in medical procedures, or new GPS tracking equipment, we simply cannot deny the fact that science has changed our lives considerably. Each and every decade seems to reel-out a new scientific breakthrough and this is soon adapted into our everyday lives - to the extent that we could not imagine where we were before the innovation.
There are some breakthroughs in science that really do not get the amount of press attention that they truly deserve. This is especially so when you think about how much we continue to discover in terms of astronomy.
People generally seem to be completely disinterested where this subject is concerned. Unless something is tangible and liable to affect a person directly in a terrestrial sense, it is so unfortunate that ignorance appears to be bliss in this regard.
Scientists are discovering more and more about not only the solar system in which we live, but also other solar systems and galaxies across the Universe. They have now identified planets that orbit stars at the same distance that we are from the Sun and this will very shortly reveal other planetary systems with other forms of life on.
Although this may well be of huge interest to me and a few other people, I sometimes wonder what it will take to stir the imagination of the majority of people in this world - perhaps a full blown invasion from some extra terrestrial species may do the trick.
